Abstract

Many auxin-binding systems have been studied in different laboratories but the binding sites in maize membranes are by far the best characterised. Furthermore, there is now excellent evidence, especially from recent electrophysiological data, (Barbier-Brygoo et al., 1989a, b, further elaborated by Prof. J. Guern at this Conference) that these binding sites are functionally active receptors. The binding proteins have been solubilised, purified and both polyclonal (Löbler and Klämbt, 1985; Shimomura et al., 1988; Napier et al., 1988) and monoclonal antibodies (Napier et al., 1988) produced. The receptor has been cloned and sequenced in four different laboratories (Inohara et al., 1989; Hesse et al., 1989, Tillman et al., 1989; Lazarus and Venis, unpublished).
