Abstract
The term wheat is normally used to refer to the cultivated species of the genus Triticum. The genus Thticum is complex and includes diploids, tetraploids, and hexaploids. Although a number of species have been cultivated over the years, cultivation is now restricted almost entirely to the tetraploid durum wheat (Triticumturgidum L.) and the hexaploid common or bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.).
