Dieses Kapitel setzt vom bisherigen Stoff fast nichts voraus; für eine homogene dyadische Relation B werden durch die Suche nach Lösungen x der Gleichung \( \bar x = Bx\ \) in einem booleschen Sinne Eigenvektoren bestimmt. Diese haben bei kombinatorischen Spielen schöne Anwendungen. Dabei gehen wir schrittweise vor. In Abschnitt 8.1 untersuchen wir die Fälle \( \bar x \subset Bx \) (x absorbierend) und \( Bx \subset \bar x \) (x stabil) separat. Teilmengen x, die beide Eigenschaften gleichzeitig besitzen, sind Kerne von B. In Abschnitt 8.2 wird untersucht, unter welchen Voraussetzungen Kerne überhaupt existieren. Hier kommt (nach seiner Anwendung beim Initialteil in Abschnitt 6.3) zum zweiten Mal ein mächtiger Mechanismus zum Tragen, dessen verbandstheoretisches Schema im Anhang A.3 herauspräpariert wird. Abschnitt 8.3 enthält die spieltheoretische Interpretation der Resultate über Kerne. Unter anderem werden NIM-artige Spiele und Schachendspiele erwähnt.
