Abstract

We have classified magnetic substances according to the nature of their spin fluctuations, which range between the mutually opposite extremes of the local moment limit and the extended moment limit or the limit of weakly ferro- and antiferromagnetic metals. As seen in the preceding chapters, in these two extremes theories of dynamical spin fluctuations are satisfactory. It was also seen that the dynamical spin fluctuations at low temperatures or the excitations from the ground state in general are reasonably well described by RPA, covering both the local moment and the weakly ferro- and antiferromagnetic limits. Thus it remains to develop a theory for the intermediate regime at finite temperatures. Very few studies of this have been reported so far so the problem remains for future investigations.
