Abstract
The occurrence of spermatophores is widespread among arachnids. It has been observed and extensively studied in many Scorpiones (scorpions), Pseudoscorpiones (Chelonethi, Chernetes, false scorpions), Uropygi-Thelyphonida-Holopeltidia (whip scorpions), Amblypygi (amblypygids), Araneae (spiders), and Acari (mites and ticks). Differences in the structure of arachnid spermatophores are of such a high degree that several investigators have repeatedly drawn attention to the definite taxonomic value of spermatophore morphology (reviews by Cloudsley-Thompson 1976; Schaller 1971; Weygoldt 1974).
