Zusammenfassung
Aus der Erfahrung, daß Überlebens- und offensichtliche Heilungsraten bei lokalisierter Krebserkrankung höher liegen als bei Ausbreitung über das Ursprungsorgan hinaus, entstand das Bedürfnis, den Ausdehnungsbefund in Gruppen oder Stadien einzuteilen. Diese Gruppen wurden häufig als „Früh-“ bzw. „Spätfälle“ bezeichnet, worin ein zeitlicher Fortschritt zum Ausdruck kommt. In Wirklichkeit kann das Stadium der Erkrankung zum Zeitpunkt der Diagnosestellung nicht nur die Wachstumsrate und die Ausdehnung des Neoplasmas widerspiegeln, sondern auch die Art des Tumors und die Tumor-Wirt-Beziehung.
