Zusammenfassung
Die analytische Geometrie erklärt in einem affinen Vektorraume eine Metrik dadurch, daß sie federn Vektor ξ = (x1, . . ., x n ) eine Länge
zuschreibt. Die Komponenten x v von ξ, sowie die Koeffizienten f μv der quadratischen Form
werden dabei einem Körper k entnommen, der meistens der Körper der reellen Zahlen ist. In der euklidischen Geometrie wird bekanntlich
angesetzt, doch führt jede quadratische Form (1) zu einer sinnvollen Geometrie, wenn nur die Determinante |f μv | ≠ 0 ist.
