Zusammenfassung
Aufgrund von Kundenwünschen werden von Produktearten häufig, über Jahre hin betrachtet, eine Vielzahl unterschiedlicher Typen- und Abmessungsvarianten konstruiert; es entstehen auf diese Weise oft hunderte geringfügig unterschiedliche Bauteile gleicher Funktion. Wirtschaftlicher wäre es, von Produkten nicht ständig neue Varianten zu konstruieren, sondern deren Gestalt-, Leistungs- und anderen Parameterwerte für einen bestimmten Zeitraum festzulegen („einzufrieren“), d.h. diese zu standardisieren.
