Zusammenfassung
Bakterien sind sehr kleine Organismen und weisen meist einen Durchmesser von 0.5–3 μm auf. Die größeren Individuen erreichen eine Länge von etwa 4–5 μm. Infolge des hohen Oberflächen/Volumen-Verhältnisses werden bei Vertretern dieser Organismengruppe hohe Stoffumsätze erzielt. Bakterien sind zur raschen Vermehrung befähigt und zeichnen sich durch ein hohes Adaptationsvermögen aus.
