Abstract

This paper introduces the notions of satellite platform, sensor and digital image processing, in the context of oceanographic and coastal applications with remotely sensed data. The most important interaction processes between water surfaces and electromagnetic waves are briefly reviewed. Major oceanographic parameters such as surface temperature and chlorophyll concentration that can be derived from satellite data are presented.
