Abstract
The paper is concerned with the development of the statistical properties of weak turbulence subjected to high rates of strain. This problem is often referred to as that of rapid distortion, and applies to situations in which the turbulence changes very fast. A rapid straining of turbulence is present in many practical situations such as stagnation flows, accelerated flows in ducts, impinging jets and reattachment of separated flows.
