Abstract
It is a well-known and accepted fact that the rate of suicide in patients in a psychiatric hospital is far higher than in the general population. Almost all studies show that the majority of those who commit suicide suffer from a psychiatric disorder. Pærregaard (1963), who investigated 1470 suicides in the Copenhagen area, found that 96% of the suicides had a psychiatric diagnosis.
