Abstract
Compared to the richness of integumental colors of numerous insects, coloration of chelicerates appears to be of little diversity, except for spiders and certain mites. Particularly in spiders a wide range of coloration is presented (Millot 1926; Kaston 1948; Crome 1955; Levi and Levi 1968; Stern and Kullmann 1975), based upon integumental chromes and also specific cuticular structures. Furthermore, color patterns may be supplemented by white guanine inclusions of intestinal storage cells (Minot 1926; Blanke 1972; Seitz 1972).
