Abstract
The annual rhythms of molt, migratory fattening and nocturnal migratory restlessness were investigated in captive individuals of two closely related species of flycatchers, the pied flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca) and the collared flycatcher (F. albicollis). In both species these patterns persisted for up to 2 1/2 years under constant environmental conditions indicating that they are controlled by an endogenous circannual rhythmicity. Known differences between the two species in the timing of seasonal events before and during the first fall migration were reflected, at least to some extent, in the behavior of the caged birds.
