Abstract
Operatively obtained myocardial biopsies from 147 patients who were operated upon because of acquired or congenital vitium cordis were studied electron microscopically (Table 1). They were then compared with clinical findings, particularly those of preoperative heart catheter investigation. The alterations in fine structure can generally be divided into two groups:
1) Hypertrophic
2) Degenerative changes
