Zusammenfassung
Der technologische Fortschritt führt einerScits zu einem Ersatz bisher software-mäßig realisierter Funktionen durch Hardware. Dabei werden nicht nur Kosten gesenkt, meist kommt es auch zu Leistungssteigerungen Der Einfluß der Großintegration hat andererScits aber auch einen Ersatz von Hardware durch Software zur Folge. Hierfür sorgen vor allem die Einsatzmöglichkeiten von Mikroprozessoren. Sie erlauben ausgefeilte Software-Problemlösungen anstelle von Hardware. Für diese scheinbar gegenläufigen Tendenzen gibt es eine einfache Erklärung. Die mikroprozessororientierte Entwicklung der Großintegration von Schaltungen bedingt zwar mehr Intelligenz bei einfachen Anwendungen aber auch weniger Hardware bei komplexeren Systemen.
