Abstract
In contrast with the main site studies in upland Britain, the primary production, litter production and accumulation of dwarf shrub heaths in lowland England is described; burning of the heath provides an aged series of sites which are used to determine rates of production and accumulation and to analyse the contribution of oribatid mites.
