Abstract
Research on plant cell culture is progressing in Japan and the number of workers in this field is increasing as in other countries. The fermentation industry in Japan has also already developed remarkably; therefore, some of the researchers who are both plant scientists and microbiologists are interested in plant cell culture for the production of useful metabolites in ways similar to traditional fermentation techniques.
