The Importance of Preventing Increased Intracranial Pressure in Patients with Cerebral Edema not Related to Trauma

  • Conference paper
Intracranial Pressure III

Abstract

The presence of elevated intracranial pressure (ICP) in patients with cerebral edema secondary to non-taumatic, non-neoplastic encephalopathies has been well documented, usually via lumbar puncture. Few reports exist however of continuous ICP monitoring of patients with nontraumatic cerebral edema (5, 6, 11). We are reporting our experience in monitoring and controlling ICP in 15 such patients.
