Computer-Assisted Determination of Optimum ICP Levels

Intracranial Pressure III

Abstract

The condition known as “intracranial tightness” can constitute a grave risk to the patient. It is occasionally observed that patients with normal intracranial pressure (ICP) develop the condition of “tight brain” (7). The only dependable indicator of intracranial tightness is the behavior of intracranial elastance. The elastance of the intracranial system can be determined from the pressure volume (P-V) relationship (1, 3–6). However, the P-V method has limited application in neurosurgical practice.
