Abstract

When the PV relationship is investigated through an infusion test, the slope of the curve is the resultant of two simultaneous phenomena (1, 2):

  1. 1)

    The overall elasticity of the craniospinal spaces, DP/DV measuring the elastance (E: mmHg/ml) or stiffness of the system.

  2. 2)

    The leakage of CSF which, after an inflexion point i, causes a bending of the curve towards the abscissa, according to the overall outflow resistance (Ro). (We shall rather speak of the “apparent resistance (Ra) since the test is likely to modify the normal Ro of CSF issues.)
