Zusammenfassung
Bereits 1974 hat Massey [123] die Vermutung formuliert, daß durch die gemeinsame Behandlung und Optimierung von Codierung und Modulation erhebliche Gewinne gegenüber der klassischen Kanalcodierung zu erwarten sind. Ein erstes praktisches Verfahren dazu wurde 1977 von Imai und Hirakawa [112] vorgeschlagen. Erst mit der Arbeit von Ungerböck [138] begann innerhalb kurzer Zeit unter dem Begriff trelliscodierte Modulation (TCM) der Siegeszug von einem theoretischen Konzept zur weltweiten Anwendung. Übertragungsverfahren auf TCM-Basis haben inzwischen in so unterschiedlichen Bereichen wie beispielsweise bei Modems für den Telefonkanal, im Mobilfunk für Fadingkanäle sowie bei der Satellitenkommunikation ihre Leistungsfähigkeit bewiesen.
