Abstract

During the period of decline of tuberculosis (TB) in the USA from 1963 to 1986, the total number of cases decreased by 5% each year, but the number of extrapulmonary cases by less than 1% per year. In 1986, extrapulmonary disease represented 17.5% of the total cases analysed by the Centres for Disease Control in Atlanta [1].
