Zusammenfassung
Orthoptik heißt wörtlich übersetzt „gerade sehen“ und befasst sich mit Augenbewegungsstörungen und deren Folgen wie Schielen, Sehschwächen und Doppelsehen. Orthoptistinnen sind ausgebildet, sowohl diagnostisch als auch therapeutisch tätig zu sein. Im Gegensatz zu den meisten anderen Fachberufen im Gesundheitswesen liegt der Schwerpunkt der orthoptischen Tätigkeit auf der Diagnostik von Augenbewegungsstörungen und kindlichen Sehstörungen, immer in Zusammenarbeit mit einem Augenarzt. Bewegungsgestörte Kinder weisen häufig auch Augenbewegungsstörungen auf.
