CAD (Computer Aided Design). Darunter versteht man die mit Rechnereinsatz verbundene Arbeitstechnik des Konstruierens unter Nutzung entsprechender Geräte (Hardware) und Programme (Software). Ein CAD-Arbeitsplatz (Hardware) besteht i. a. aus:

graphischem Bildschirm,
-
Eingabegerät (z. B. Tablett oder Maus für graphische Eingabe und Digitalisierung),
-
alphanumerischem Bildschirm mit Tastatur,
-
Ausgabegeräten für Text und Graphik (Drucker, Plotter),
-
autarkem Arbeitsplatzrechner oder Anschluß an einen Großrechner, jeweils mit geeignetem Massenspeicher.
