Zusammenfassung
Eine Entzündung der Herzklappen wird als Endokarditis bezeichnet. Diese kann zahlreiche Ursachen haben, wobei die infektiöse Genese am häufigsten ist. Letztere erfordert eine längere antibiotische Therapie und kann im Extremfall einen notfallmäßigen Klappenersatz bedingen.
Im Unterschied zur Endokarditis ist das rheumatische Fieber eine Systemerkrankung, bei der es nach einem Streptokokkeninfekt durch kreuzreagierende Antikörper zu einem Befall der Herzklappen kommen kann.
