Zusammenfassung
Bei diesen Polymeren handelt es sich um ungesättigte Kohlenwasserstoffe, die sowohl als cis-Form (Kautschuk) wie auch als trans-Form (Guttapercha, Balata) im Milch-Saft (Latex) zahlreicher Pflanzen ( > 2000) vorkommen. Besonders wichtig für die Gewinnung von natürlichem Kautschuk sind einige Wolfsmilchgewächse (Euphorbiaceen) insbesondere Hevea brasiliensis. Dieser bis zu 20 m hoch werdende in Südamerika, Afrika und Hinterindien angebaute, Baum ergibt beim Anritzen der Rinde im Mittel etwa 70 g Latex pro Tag. Er liefert, plantagenmäßig angebaut weit über 99 % der Welternte. Der Rest wird von ca. 50 verschiedenen anderen Pflanzen, u. a. auch von dem in Europa bekannten Gummibaum Ficus elastica, der in Südostasien wächst, gewonnen. In der Sowjetunion wurden Versuche unternommen Naturkautschuk aus den Wurzeln eines dem Löwenzahn ähnlichen Korbblütler (Cornpositae) Taraxacum bicorne (Kok saghys) zu gewinnen, die einen sehr hohen Latexgehalt aufweisen.
