Zusammenfassung
Alle Echinodermen leiten sich von bilateral-symmetrischen Vor fahren ab — ein Zeugnis dafür liefern die Embryonalentwicklung und die Larvenformen aller Klassen der Stachelhäuter — ; sie haben erst sekundär, zugleich mit dem Erwerb einer festsitzenden oder fast festsitzenden Lebensweise radiäre Symmetrie angenommen, und in tertiärer Linie sind unabhängig voneinander und auf ganz verschie dene Weise zwei Untergruppen zur bilateralen Symmetrie zurückgekehrt: die irregulären Seeigel und die Holothurien (Seewalzen).
