Abstract
In his book on Barriers to New Competition, Bain gives three main reasons for barriers to entry: absolute cost advantages of the incumbent firm, economies of scale and product differentiation advantages. In this chapter I want to discuss absolute cost advantages. Absolute cost advantages have many reasons. I want to discuss three of them.
