Abstract
This paper is concerned with the problem of dynamic optimization in fisheries management. We shall utilize a mathematical model of fishing essentially due to M. Schaefer (1957). Although Schaefer’s model is a dynamic one, most economic analyses based upon it (including Schaefer’s own analysis) have been purely static. In the first section of this paper, therefore, we review briefly a recent dynamic treatment of the Schaefer model due to the author (Clark, 1973).
