Zusammenfassung
Trotz des Wandels der Arbeitswelt nimmt die Erwerbsarbeit und der Beruf immer noch eine zentrale Stellung im Leben vieler Menschen ein, denn Erwerbsarbeit dient der Sicherung des Lebensunterhaltes einer Person und ihrer Familie. Erwerbsarbeit strukturiert die Zeit, schafft regelmäßige soziale Kontakte außerhalb der Kernfamilie, vermittelt einen Bezug zu Zielen und Zwecken, die über die betroffene Person selbst hinausreichen, sie gibt persönliche Identität und schafft sozialen Status und sorgt für psychophysische Aktivierung. Der objektive Karriereerfolg (Einkommen, Vorankommen) wird von der Intelligenz, dem Ehrgeiz, dem Ausmaß des Networking, der Macht des Mentors sowie der physischen Attraktivität der Berufstätigen positiv befördert und durch Übergewicht behindert. Eine erfolgreiche individuelle Anpassung an die veränderten beruflichen Bedingungen wird durch berufliche Zukunftsorientierung, hohe Selbstwirksamkeitserwartung, Optimismus und Selbstwertschätzung erleichtert.
