Petrinetze sind ein weltweit in verschiedenen Anwendungsgebieten anzutreffendes Modell verteilter Systeme, so im Bankwesen, in der Ökonomie, Telekommunikation, Workflow Management, Konfliktlösung, Prozess‐Steuerung, Biochemie und System‐Biologie. Durch ihre äußerst einfachen Grundsätze und ihre graphische Ausdrucksweise machen sie komplizierte Zusammenhänge auch dem Nicht‐Fachmann zugänglich und bieten zugleich tiefgehende mathematische Analysemethoden an.
