Zusammenfassung
Verfolgt man die Geschichte der Laserentwicklungen und parallel dazu die medizinischen Anwendungen, so ist ein kontinuierlicher Fortschritt bei den Laserwirkungen und den Geräteentwicklungen zu beobachten. Das Verständnis der charakteristischen Eigenschaften des Photons und des Lichts bildet die Grundlage für alle Anwendungen zur medizinischen Diagnostik und Therapie. Einsicht in das physikalische Prinzip des Lasers überzeugt davon, dass sich kein Mysterium dahinter verbirgt. Laser können unterschiedlichen Anforderungen genügen und somit für eine spezifische Anwendung optimiert werden. Laserstrahlung, abhängig von der Wellenlänge und dem Betriebsmodus, ist ein mächtiges ″Werkzeug″ zur Behandlung von Patienten, kann aber bei unsachgemäßem Gebrauch auch sehr gefährlich werden. Eine komplette Übersicht über die am Markt aktuell verfügbaren medizinischen Lasersysteme erleichtert die richtige Auswahl für spezifische Anwendungen.
