Zusammenfassung
Es wird geschätzt, dass derzeit jährlich ca. 500.000 Infektionen in Deutschland im Zusammenhang mit einer Krankenhausbehandlung auftreten [5]. Infektionen, die im zeitlichen Zusammenhang mit medizinischen Maßnahmen stehen (nosokomiale Infektionen), gehören somit zu den häufigsten Komplikationen medizinischer Behandlung. Obgleich sich die Möglichkeiten der medizinischen Behandlung entscheidend verbessert haben und weiter verbessern, ist das Problem nosokomialer Infektionen nicht bewältigt. Im Gegenteil, einige medizinische Errungenschaften haben erst zum Auftreten bestimmter Infektionen geführt.
