Zusammenfassung
Die Entwicklung experimenteller Methoden zur Untersuchung von Reibungsprozessen auf atomarer Ebene und numerischer Simulationsmethoden haben in den letzten Jahrzehnten ein schnelles Anwachsen der Anzahl von Forschungsarbeiten im Bereich der Reibung von Festkörpern auf atomarer Skala hervorgerufen. Als Grundlage für viele Untersuchungen der Reibungsmechanismen auf atomarer Skala kann das als „Tomlinson-Modell“ bekannte einfache Modell benutzt werden. Es wurde von Prandtl 1928 zur Beschreibung plastischer Deformation in Kristallen vorgeschlagen.
