Zusammenfassung
Der Thorax ähnelt funktionell einem starren Käfig mit elastischem Boden (Zwerchfell). Die Thoraxwand ist durch Rippen und Muskulatur so verstärkt, dass siedem äußeren Luftdruck standhält bzw. nicht nach innen kollabiert, wenn bei der Einatmung im Pleuraraum ein Unterdruck erzeugt wird.
