Zusammenfassung
Unter dem Begriff Elektrochemie versteht man die Verknüpfung elektrischer Phänomene (wie Strom und Spannung) mit chemischen Prozessen. Elektrochemische Prinzipien sind für das Verständnis zahlreicher biologischer Erscheinungen wesentlich, wie Membranpotentiale, Nervenerregung, oxidative Phosphorylierung und Photosynthese. Von der Elektrochemie sind daher für die Biologie vor allem diejenigen Teilgebiete wichtig, die sich mit den Eigenschaften von Ionen sowie mit Redoxprozessen befassen.
