Zusammenfassung
Die menschliche Existenz ist seit jeher durch die Folgen von Unfällen bedroht. Auch deshalb haben sich schon früh Solidargemeinschaften gebildet, die ihren »Mitgliedern« im Falle von sozialen Notlagen durch Tod und Krankheit, aber eben auch durch Unfälle, zur Seite standen, ohne dass man diese teilweise bis ins Altertum zurückreichenden Bestrebungen als »Versicherungen« im heutigen Sinne bezeichnen könnte.
