Abstract
It was the objective of this contribution to provide a comprehensive synopsis on the significance of the dispersion of uranium in the environment by common fertilizer practices. Recent studies revealed that uranium originating from fertilizers accumulates in soils over time and thereby increases uranium losses to water-bodies. Studies on the uranium content in soils and surface waters in relation to fertilizer practice substantiate such coherence. The most efficient and sustainable solution to the problem is the extraction of uranium from fertilizers.
