Wenn es stimmt, dass ausnahmslos alles, was wir denken, wissen, glauben, hoffen, fühlen, erleiden, entscheiden oder tun sich bis ins letzte Detail auf die Strukturen unserer Neurone und Synapsen und der Prozesse, die sich zwischen ihnen abspielen, zurückführen lässt, wenn also das, was wir als seelisch bezeichnen, sowohl in seiner Existenz als auch in seiner Beschaffenheit vollständig eine Hervorbringung neuronaler Schaltkreise ist, dann hat das für das Verständnis psychischer Störungen und für die Wirkungsweise von Psychotherapie weit reichende Konsequenzen.
