Abstract
Anesthesia for endoscopic procedures requires understanding of the dynamics of insufflation and the properties of the insufflated carbon-dioxide. This chapter deals with preoperative evaluation, pre-medications, induction of anesthesia and the role of muscle relaxants and analgesics in the administration of anesthesia for endoscopic procedures. Information has also been provided on the preparation of patients for these procedures. The possible cardiovascular complications during endoscopic procedures have been listed, and methods in dealing with them have been explained. Furthermore, intraoperative pulmonary complications that may arise during these procedures and their management have been dealt with. Management of patients after the procedures with specific reference to pain has also been elaborated.
