Abstract
Specially designed instruments and equipment are the backbone for endoscopic surgical procedures. It is of paramount importance to understand the full potential of the instruments before commencement of a procedure. Although most of the instruments used in endoscopic surgery are extended versions of the instruments used in open surgery; numerous instruments have been specifically developed for minimal access surgery. On the other hand, a wide variety of endoscopic equipments undergone constant improvements as this field of surgical specialty grows. This chapter focuses and explains the principles of endoscopic instruments, electrosurgery devices, optical devices, light sources, video equipment and equipment specific for endoscopic surgery. Computerized data management system, pelvitrainer and virtual reality system developed for use in the field of minimal access surgery have also been elaborated.
