In Anlehnung an Asendorpf (1999) können die verschiedenen Persönlichkeitsbereiche aufgrund ihrer Funktionalität unterschieden werden (⊡ Tabelle 6.1). Dabei sind die Zusammenhänge zwischen den einzelnen Persönlichkeitsbereichen in vielen Bereichen noch nicht geklärt, was nicht zuletzt damit zusammenhängt, dass mit den unterschiedlichen Persönlichkeitsbereichen häufig auch gesonderte Forschungstraditionen und Prämissen verbunden sind.
