Summary
ERP feasibility studies are often seen as an activity that is lowest in priority in companies planning to embark on ERP projects. Often it is thought that the additional time and resources spent at the beginning constitutes a luxury that can be avoided. The authors show in the following article that a well-planned, business process-oriented approach in a feasibility study provides substantial benefits which by far outweigh the additional time and costs incurred in a feasibility study. The structured approach allows a review of existing business processes and matches them to “best practice” of business processes that will underpin the training of users in new functionalities when selecting the appropriate package. It also provides a systematic way to implement company-wide processes that are seamless and synchronized through the use of enabling templates.
