Zusammenfassung

Am 17.3.2006 ziehen über 150.000 Menschen, zumeist mit grünen Kleidungsstücken bekleidet, durch die Straßen New Yorks und feiern Irland. Mitte der 1990er Jahre haben etwa 80% der aus Bangladesch nach Großbritannien eingewanderten Männer zwischen 40 und 59 Jahren keine private Rentenversicherung und sind damit in großer Gefahr, als Rentner unter die Armutsgrenze zu fallen (Ginn/Arber 2001: 295–296). Am 26.7.1841 verfasst August Heinrich Hoffmann (Künstlername: Hoffmann von Fallersleben) auf der zu dieser Zeit englischen Badeinsel Helgoland passend zu einer Melodie von Joseph Haydn ‚Das Lied der Deutschen‘.
