Die Persönlichkeit eines Menschen wird durch individuelle Muster von mehr oder minder stabilen und unterschiedlich globalen Eigenschaften beschrieben. Mit dem Terminus Schülerpersönlichkeit wird das Wechselspiel zwischen Persönlichkeitsentwicklung und Schulfaktoren angesprochen (Pekrun 1983). Diesen schulbezogenen Persönlichkeitsmerkmalen wollen wir in diesem Kapitel nachgehen. Wir wollen fragen, wie die Entwicklung der Persönlichkeit im Kindes-und Jugendalter durch die Schule als Sozialisationsinstanz und durch das Erziehungsverhalten der Lehrerinnen und Lehrer beeinflusst wird. Damit wollen wir keinesfalls nahe legen, dass nur die Schule Einfluss auf die Persönlichkeits-entwicklung hätte und der Einfluss der Eltern, der Peers und der Erbanlage zu vernachlässigen wäre. Vielmehr ist mit dieser Frage nach dem Einfluss von Schule auf die Persönlichkeitsentwicklung eine Akzentsetzung gemeint, die die besondere Rolle schulischer Faktoren bei der Persönlichkeitsentwicklung hervorheben will. Des Weiteren wollen wir untersuchen, welchen Einfluss umgekehrt die Persönlichkeit der Schülerinnen und Schüler auf deren Schulleistung hat. Auch vermittelnde Bedingungen zwischen Persönlichkeit und Schulleistung sollen dabei in den Blick genommen werden. Hierzu gehört etwa die Frage nach der Erklärung von Erfolg und Misserfolg oder der Einsatz bestimmter Lernstrategien. In diesem Kapitel nicht betrachtet werden weitergehende Maßstäbe für eine erfolgreiche Schulkarriere wie die seelische und körperliche Gesundheit oder das Sozialverhalten.
