Zur Rolle von Religion in Demokratisierungsprozessen

Zusammenfassung

Die Rolle von Religion in Demokratisierungsprozessen ist in der Politikwissenschaft noch relativ unbeachtet: Während Religion mit der Literatur zu religiösen Akteuren in Konfliktsituationen, konkret, ihrem Konflikt- und Schlichtungspotenzial, als unabhängige Variable in die Konfliktforschung Einzug gefunden hat, kann dergleichen nicht über die Demokratisierungsforschung gesagt werden. Dies hat sich auch mit der sogenannten Arabellion in Tunesien, Ägypten und Libyen bislang nicht verändert. In keinem der englisch- und deutschsprachigen Standardwerke zu demokratischer Transition und Konsolidierung lässt sich eine ausführliche Analyse von Religion als abhängiger oder unabhängiger Variable in Demokratisierungsprozessen finden: Robert Dahl (1971), Guillermo O’Donnell, Laurence Whitehead und Phillippe Schmitter (1986), Juan Linz und Alfred Ste pan (1996), David und Ruth Collier (1999), Robert Kaufman und Stephan Haggard (1995); im deutschsprachigen Raum: Dirk Berg-Schlosser (1999 und 2007), Wolfgang Merkel (1999), Eberhard Sandschneider (1995), Werner Weidenfeld (1996) unternehmen keine komparative Systematisierung zur Rolle von Religion, religiösen Akteuren, Eliten und Bewegungen in politischen Transformationsprozessen.
