Zusammenfassung
Bildung und Lebenslauf sind eng miteinander verwoben. Diese Verbundenheit kann lebenslaufsoziologisch oder pädagogisch akzentuiert werden. Innerhalb der Lebenslauftheorie wird die Teilhabe am Bildungssystem als prägend für das erste Drittel des Lebenslaufs angesehen. Die enge Zusammenballung des Bildungserwerbs auf einen Teilabschnitt des Lebenslaufs erscheint widersinnig. In der Humankapitaltheorie geht man allerdings davon aus, dass Bildung dabei eine Investition von Zeit und Geld darstellt, deren Höhe auch von der Diskontierungsrate der zu erwartenden „Ertragslaufzeit“ abhängt.

Eine stärkere Entscheidungsbefugnis der Kinder würde ebenfalls ungleichheitsfördernd wirken, da sich Kinder an sozial relativ homogenen Peergruppen orientieren (Hopf 1992).
