Zusammenfassung
Digitale Spiele nehmen schon seit einigen Jahren eine wichtige Stellung in den Medienmenüs Jugendlicher ein. Die öffentliche Diskussion über dieses Medium ist allerdings nach wie vor durch Ängste und große Skepsis geprägt. Aktuell gibt es wohl kein anderes Medium, dem so viele negative Eigenschaften und Wirkungen zugeschrieben werden: Förderung von Gewaltbereitschaft bis hin zu Amokläufen, Vernichtung der individuellen schulischen Lernleistung, gesundheitliche und soziale Degeneration usw. Da überraschte es fast, dass Computerspiele 2008 vom Deutschen Kulturrat offiziell zum Kulturgut erklärt wurden.
