Rural Social Work – Entwicklungen in Australien, Kanada und den USA

Zusammenfassung

In der Bundesrepublik sind erst in den letzten Jahren vermehrt Untersuchungen entstanden und Überlegungen darüber angestellt worden, welche Konsequenzen ggf. spezifische Strukturen in ländlichen Räumen für Soziale Arbeit haben. Demgegenüber ist die Diskussion über Ländliche Soziale Arbeit (Rural Social Work) vor allem in den USA bereits seit Jahren etabliert (Pugh/Cheers 2010: VI). Auch in Australien und Kanada ist dieses Konzept gebräuchlich, während diese Perspektive in Großbritannien und auf dem europäischen Festland weniger ausgeprägt ist. Pugh und Cheers führen dies darauf zurück, dass die Bevölkerungsdichte und der Grad der Urbanisation höher sind, die speziellen Bedarfe und Probleme Sozialer Arbeit in ländlichen Räumen unterbewertet werden, die Bedürfnisse der ländlichen Bevölkerung sozial und politisch wenig Beachtung finden und die meisten Ausbildungsstätten für Soziale Arbeit in Städten angesiedelt sind (Pugh/Cheers 2010: VI).
